Gulfport started as a fishing village in the 1880s and has gone by several names over the years β Disston City, Bonifacio, Veteran City β before officially becoming Gulfport in 1910. Long known as an "Old Florida" enclave, the town has reinvented itself as one of the region's most walkable arts communities, anchored by the 1920s-era Gulfport Casino ballroom and events like the annual GeckoFest street festival.
