πŸ•°οΈ History & background

Kenwood was platted in 1912 by Philadelphia developer Charles Hall on 160 acres of former avocado groves, offering easy access to downtown via the Central Avenue streetcar. Today, Historic Kenwood is a National Register historic district with the highest concentration of Craftsman bungalows per square acre anywhere in the country, alongside Mediterranean Revival, Tudor, and Colonial Revival homes dating mostly from 1912 to 1945. The neighborhood is also home to a thriving Artist Enclave, with a monthly ArtWalk and a citywide reputation for its murals and artist-painted signposts. Hall himself donated the neighborhood's Seminole Park to the city, on the condition its name never change β€” just a few blocks from where the dog park sits today.

πŸ• What's there now

The build-out here mirrors Kenwood's mural-covered bungalow streets β€” eco-conscious materials and a distinctly artsy feel compared to more standard city dog parks. It can run noisier than other parks thanks to nearby highway traffic, but the neighborhood charm more than makes up for it.
